In a bold stride toward promoting global academic equity and excellence, the University of Manchester has unveiled the Global Futures Scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year. Valued at over £4.5 million, the initiative aims to support talented and self-funded international students, particularly from Africa, seeking undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the United Kingdom.
The Global Futures Scholarships are designed to recognize and reward academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to positive social change. For applicants from Ghana and other African countries, the university is offering undergraduate awards up to £24,000 over three years (£8,000 annually) and postgraduate taught scholarships of £15,000 applied directly toward tuition fees.
“This scholarship programme reflects our commitment to fostering a truly global learning community where exceptional students from developing regions, especially Africa, can thrive academically and personally,” said a representative from the University’s International Office.
Applicants from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are eligible to apply. Successful applicants must demonstrate excellent academic records and submit a compelling personal statement during the scholarship application phase.
To qualify, undergraduate candidates must receive a conditional or unconditional offer for a full-time on-campus programme and maintain a minimum of 60% average each year. Master’s candidates must hold at least a second-class upper (2:1) degree or its international equivalent and also have accepted an offer of admission from the university.
Key Application Deadlines:
Undergraduate (A-levels/IB/NCUK): April 24, 2025
Undergraduate (with final results): March 13, 2025
Postgraduate (Master’s): April 24, 2025
The university has confirmed that selection decisions will be released by late May 2025. Students must be self-funded, as applicants receiving external sponsorships will not be eligible for this award.
With Manchester ranked among the world’s top 30 universities and globally recognized for innovation and student support, the scholarship offers more than just financial aid; it presents a gateway to life-changing opportunities.
